I run the free-space optics lab for the Engheta Group and have set up the optical tables with three lasers feeding four different experiments. On the table, we employ a chopper, spectrometer, and several power meters. Additionally, I have built a

  • beam cleaner

  • motorized monochromator

  • motorized goniometer

Light can be carried from that table to our NSOM (also maintained by me) via a nanopositioned fiber optic coupler, which can be used in near-field optical measurements or other experiments involving the upright microscope. I have built several accessories for this microscope, including:

  • under side focused laser illumination system

  • a coherent dual spot illumination system that attaches to the trinocular port

I am experienced in Mathematica’s Optica package and COMSOL’s Ray Optics package.

I have also authored my own Fourier Propagator code in Python. Beginning with a near-field simulation from either Lumerical or COMSOL, this code allows me to compute images as seen on different focal planes under any NA.
